Welcome to TechScreen

Welcome to the TechScreen site. This side shall support the exchange of knowledge in the domain of Web Engineering and related aspects. As a side effect, this side is used for research on knowledge management technologies. User can pose challenges in the problem domain and can participate in quizzes. Further a bibliography about arcticles in different related domains is continously extended. Finally, questionnaires on different issues are provided. Automated twitter posting not listed

In the lecture Workflow modelling and process management we had the task to include automated twitter postings in our application. A major problem occurred when we tested our application and some postings didn’t show up in the feed. We searched on the web for solutions because the missing posts seemed to be random and sometimes the same tweet worked when we tried it again. How can we fix this?

Easy way to trim two columns of a latex file to the same length

Often in scientific publications two columns are used to provide an overseeable document. When formatting latex to use two columns the first column gets filled and after it is full the second column is used. This repeats page for page. Of course when stopping in between a page it is not very beautiful when only one column is filled and you only have content on one half of the page. Besides manual formatting a simpler solution is needed.

Plex Server Profile for specific devices

Plex automatically detects the TV and sends according to the specifications the right format and data to the TV. Mostly this works without problems, but in my case some TVs showed black bars when watching a movie or a show. When searching on the web you only find that you have to change the settings of the TV. Sometimes this leads to a good compromise but in other cases the picture only gets distorted when changing the settings.

Location-specific images in Android App

I created an Android Application that displays a number of images that also contain text. As I want to publish my App on the Play Store and make it available for users in all countries of the world, I am trying to include location-specific images that contain text in different languages. Depending on the location of the user, the correct image should be displayed. How is it possible to implement this behavior in Android Studio?

Updated version of Android App rejected

I have created an Android Application with Android Studio and I successfully managed to upload the .apk file to the Google Play Store. Recently I received a message over the Developer Console of one user reporting a crash. After investigating and fixing the cause, I would like to update the .apk file that is online and roll out a request for all users to update their application in order to prevent others from getting the same error.

Avoid clicking on ads in Android Application

I have created an Android Application and I am displaying ads using Google AdSense. As it is not allowed to click on your own ads in order to avoid misuse, I am worried of accidentally clicking on the ads while testing and debugging my application. I thought about not showing ads during development, however I think that it is easier to develop with ads as they give me a better feeling for the structure of the application and allows me to position the elements on the display precisely so that they do not interfer with the ads.

Broken link in a scientific publication

As part of my homework, I need to read certain publications and apply their methods, algorithms, etc. These publications provide URLs where I can find more details about certain concepts and source code. Especially in old publications this link is broken, making it hard for me to complete my homework. How could I have access to this essential information?

How to create a REST endpoint with Drupal 8?

Drupal is a free, open-source web content management system and is implemented in PHP. The platform can be extended by writing plugins for the platform in PHP. The problem with server side rendered applications is that if you want to navigate to another side the application has to do a backend call. With client side rendering we just need to get the data from the server which is needed for the rendering. The goal is to create a REST endpoint which can be consumed by frontend frameworks

Can't access scientific publication

I, usually, study at home and, sometimes, I need to read a scientific publication that is available only on a digital library that requires subscription and is not available on the author's homepage. The subscription costs a lot however. Could I have access to it for free of charge?

Some time ago T-Mobile changed some settings on their mobile network infrastructure. Since then the connection to the steam update servers failed. Because of that it is not possible to update any game and so it is not possible to play any game.
